Full Time

A predicted vacancy has arisen for the role of a Detective Sergeant within the Fixed Intelligence Management Unit within ERSOU CTP. This vacancy is based at a covert location in Hertfordshire. Given the nature of the CT effort there may be a requirement to travel throughout the Eastern Region and nationally based on operational need. Successful applicants will be seconded to ERSOU CTP (Bedfordshire Police) from their home force.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated person looking to develop their career, and work within the Counter Terrorism environment. The main responsibility of the role will be the effective management of the regional Fixed Intelligence Management Unit (FIMU) including the supervision and development of police officers and police staff working in the unit. The role is office-based working Monday to Friday. There will be a requirement for you to be flexible with your duties in response to a rapidly changing intelligence picture.

This advert is open to officers within the region from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

The post holder will be required to join the ERSOU CTP on-call rota and have a full UK driving licence.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) or Development Vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. Anyone holding dual nationality can make an application but may be required to relinquish non-British nationality if successful (and any entitlement you may have to a foreign nationality) as a condition of your confirmation of appointment with CTP. When applying please click Yes to the British Nationality Question in order to progress to the next step of the application process. One of your parents should also be British or have substantial ties to the UK. In the latter instance; substantial ties means that your parent is a citizen of a British Overseas Territory, a Commonwealth citizen, US citizen, EEA citizen, British national or citizen overseas, and they would need to have demonstrable connections with the UK by way of family history or have been resident here for a substantial period of time.

If you’re already married to, or cohabiting with, a person who isn’t a British citizen, you may still be eligible for employment at the discretion of the department. You should note however, that marriage to, or cohabitation with, a person who isn’t a British citizen after appointment may, in some circumstances, result in the withdrawal of security clearance and subsequent transfer to another department, or (if this is not possible or the officer does not wish to transfer) dismissal. Each case will be considered on its merits, taking into account the ties between the person involved and the United Kingdom.

You must also be prepared to be security cleared to Developed Vetting (DV).

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate competence in their current role and be able to demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills. The successful candidate must also be able to drive as this role involves travel throughout the Eastern region.

You will be expected to provide written evidence around the following competencies and the minimum entry requirements from the role profile:

- We take ownership

- We analyse critically

- We deliver, support and inspire

- We are collaborative

Please note there is a 500 words limit for each competency.

If you are shortlisted for interview you will be expected to evidence against all personal qualities and the entry requirements stipulated in the role profile.

Essex officers will need to have the approval form signed by their 1st line manager and then sent to hr.resource.planning@kent.essex.pnn.police.uk to be authorised by Chief Officers.
