An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for persons with recent, accredited undercover or CHIS handling qualifications, to join the Undercover Unit which is responsible for managing all undercover operations across the region.

The use of undercover officers to purchase commodities or infiltrate criminal conspiracies is a well-established and legitimate tactic in the fight against serious and organised crime. The safety and security surrounding undercover officers and tactics is a vital aspect of tackling crime at its highest levels and the highly specialised ‘cover officer’ role is pivotal to this.

Successful completion of the College of Policing Cover Course is pivotal to securing permanent appointment to this position. A proven understanding of a range of covert tactics, specifically undercover, is required, and experience in CHIS and UCF operations will be an obvious benefit. You will work closely in support of a DS and DI ensuring compliance to National Standards are adhered to. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate experience of foundation investigations and ability to effectively apply dynamic risk principles.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) or Development vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

You will be expected to provide written evidence around the following competencies and the minimum entry requirements from the role profile:
- We are emotionally aware
- We take ownership
- We are collaborative
- We deliver, support and inspire
- We analyse critically
- We are innovative and open-minded.

Please note there is a 500 words limit for each competency.
