ERSOU celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone is valued and respected. We actively encourage applications from underrepresented or minority groups. ERSOU is a Disability Confident employer. Should you require any reasonable adjustments for your application process, please contact the HR Service Centre on 01438 757777. We also offer the guaranteed interview scheme; this means that all candidates with a disability covered by the Equality Act 2010, who meet the minimum entry requirements for the role, will be invited to attend an interview. Where possible we will also consider flexible working requests.

Applications are invited from police staff and police officers (please see alternate advert).

This is an opportunity for the right candidate to join ERSOU’s Counter Terrorism Prevent Team. Prevent is part of our counter-terrorist strategy, CONTEST. It’s aim is to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. This is achieved with the support of community and policing partners. ERSOU is seeking to recruit officers for immediate vacancies and to address projected vacancies in the coming twelve months.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual, who is responsive to change, has an inquisitive mindset and possesses evidence of working to safeguard vulnerable people and develop the Eastern Region’s response to those who have been, or are at risk of radicalisation.

You will be part of a team responsible for the safeguarding, and preventing of subject’s being drawn into terrorism. You will also work with partners to address vulnerabilities and work with subject who have previously been radicalised. You will be responsible for presenting cases at meetings consisting of external partners.

The role of the Prevent Officer is wide-ranging and includes:
• Maintain responsibility for Prevent Case Management (PCM) in order to manage risk, threat and vulnerability associated with individuals, institutions and ideology.
• Identifying and maintaining relationships with key individuals, institutions and groups within the community in order to promote Prevent and support its delivery and objectives.
• Act as a conduit between local policing and CT Policing, promoting the mainstream delivery of Prevent to assist the local force to fulfil its obligations under the Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015.
• Working with partners to utilise powers at their disposal to disrupt and deter persons believed to be extremists or vulnerable to radicalisation who, due to their level of perceived radicalisation or extremism, are not suitable for voluntary engagement or support programmes such as Channel.
• Deployment in the role of Contact Officer at the time of executive action.

The successful candidate will be expected to work Monday – Friday office hours predominantly. However, there may be occasions where the specifics of the workload require work outside of these core hours.

There is one current vacancy, where the first successful candidate will be posted to the Prevent team based at Essex Police HQ (Chelmsford). However, in the course of the next 12 months, it is likely that further vacancies will arise across different counties within the Eastern Region.

Those successful candidates who pass the interview board will be placed into a pool for 12 months, and as further vacancies arise, will be offered positions at specific locations across the Eastern Region. For example a vacancy arises within the Norfolk Prevent team, the person who came second in the application process will be offered that post, with the expectation they will work from the Norfolk Police HQ (Wymondham).

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) or Development Vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. Anyone holding dual nationality can make an application but may be required to relinquish non-British nationality if successful (and any entitlement you may have to a foreign nationality) as a condition of your confirmation of appointment with CTP. When applying please click Yes to the British Nationality Question in order to progress to the next step of the application process. You should note however, that marriage to, or cohabitation with, a person who isn’t a British citizen after appointment may, in some circumstances, result in the withdrawal of security clearance and subsequent transfer to another department, or (if this is not possible or the officer does not wish to transfer) dismissal. Each case will be considered on its merits, taking into account the ties between the person involved and the United Kingdom.
