The Professional Standards Department is currently seeking to appoint an experienced Investigating Officer to join the department. There is one immediate vacancy.

These posts are an exciting opportunity for experienced investigators with a strong background in dealing with complex investigations expeditiously to form part of a dynamic team.

The Public Complaints Team deal with complex investigations made by the public involving BCH Police Officers and staff. It can be a stressful environment with a high workload demanding high quality paperwork and file submission, as we deal with legally qualified professionals and other outside agencies such as the IOPC and the Crown Prosecution Service.

We are looking for highly motivated and dedicated individuals to work in this department.

The post holder will be responsible for completing public complaint or gross misconduct investigations and compiling professional investigations/reports.
Knowledge of The Police Reform Act 2002 – Schedule 3, The Police Complaints and Misconduct regulations 2012, The Police Performance Regulations 2012, Code of Ethics, and the IOPC Statutory Guidance to the Police Service is desirable and an internal knowledge of the BCH complaints/misconduct procedures would also be of benefit.

As a PSD Investigator you will investigate a wide variety of complaints made by the public. Your duties will encompass a wide range of investigative activities including but not limited to, statement taking, securing and reviewing evidence, log keeping, interviewing, file building, full Officer in Case (OIC) responsibilities which may include attending court and giving evidence if an employee has committed a criminal offence.
Previous investigation and customer service experience would be desirable.

These posts will be based at Biggleswade but operating across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire localities is an essential requirement of these roles.
