As a result of the Op COSTELLO uplift programme an exciting police staff opportunity has arisen to join the Dedicated Source Handling Unit as a CHIS Recruitment Officer who has a good existing understanding and knowledge of CHIS recruitment in support of Force priorities.

As a CHIS Recruitment Officer, you will be responsible for identifying suitable members of the public that are capable of becoming Covert Human Intelligence Sources who will have the ability and access to report on the full spectrum of criminality within Bedfordshire and support force priorities.

The use of Covert Human Intelligence Sources to gather intelligence around organised crime groups is a well-established and legitimate tactic in the fight against serious and organised crime.

The DSHU operates from discreet premises located in Bedfordshire. The successful applicant(s) must be willing to travel and work within all areas of Bedfordshire Police Estate.  There will on occasion be requirements to travel and work outside of the Force area.

This is a Police Staff vacancy on a 12month contract.  The core hours will be Monday to Friday but there may be occasions where weekend and evening working is required.

Essential criteria includes:

  • Previously passed a College of Policing H1 course or equivalent
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust, confidence, credibility, consensus and integrity in the delivery of services.
  • Aptitude for and understanding of covert policing tactics.
  • Fully conversant with the National Intelligence Model and the intelligence grading system
  • Knowledge of European Convention of Human Rights Act and R.I.P.A.
  • M.O.P.I. trained and conversant
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and CHARTER.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, on own initiative and to work to deadlines.
  • Ability to research and draw conclusions from information gathered
  • Working under pressure and to deadlines.
