An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive or part one qualified Sgt to undertake a one years’ secondment in the post of hate crime Sergeant. The successful applicant will be responsible for the forces response and performance for hate crime. The applicant will need to be self-motivated and pro-active to manage the multiple work streams and demands of athena investigations. This is a fantastic opportunity for development with the role involving, operational, tactical and strategic elements. 

The force hate Sergeant is expected to manage the below tasks on a weekly basis: 

  • Daily monitoring of hate crime.
  • Management of the hate crimes teams Athena workloads.
  • Attending meetings and represent the force with Senior leaders from across the county.
  • Monitor, manage and ensure compliance with HIMCFRS recommendations.
  • Establish and maintain lasting relationships with partners to achieve alternative and civil outcomes for hate crimes where the criminal justice system is not appropriate.
  • Manage the Hate Crime Risk Management Group, partners involved and cases brought to the process.
  • Keep abreast of national and international events to ensure the force responds to changes in tension and legislation.
  • Develop a training style and package and deliver sessions to all new control room/CRB staff, Constables and PCSO’s.
  • Deliver training to community groups/organisations or represent the force as a speaker at conferences.  
  • Manage 3rd party hate crime reporting centres.
  • Run projects and initiatives to encourage and prompt reporting on a year-round basis.
