Bedfordshire Police is one of the smallest Forces in the Country but has a complex crime risk more akin to a metropolitan area. With a budget in excess of £125M and the expectation of a period of austerity over the coming years the role of the management accountant has never been more important.

We are looking for a CCAB qualified accountant who has experience of building up a budget from scratch, budget monitoring, has excellent communication skills and is able to coordinate the production of budget forecast reports across the Force area.

An extensive area of our budget is formed of local and regional collaborations and we will expect you to work closely with project teams and accountants from our neighbouring Forces in Cambridgeshire & Hertfordshire.

You will have a team of two people who will assist you in all your budget monitoring activities along with assistance from a separate Management Accountancy Team for budgets that have been collaborated.

Good communication skills, including report writing and interpersonal skills are an essential requirement of this post. You will have the ability to communicate with a wide range of people, both internally and externally. The post holder will have the ability to adapt to change, show a positive attitude towards new ways of working and be flexible in their approach to work.

Bedfordshire Police encourage agile working and this role has been designated as “home working” so you will need sufficient broadband capacity and space at your home address to carry out your duties from there which must be in the United Kingdom. There may be rare occasions when you are required to travel to a site within Bedfordshire.

The ability to work remotely is essential while still being part of a team, as is a very good knowledge of Microsoft 365 products including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint.

If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

For further information or a general discussion about the role please contact Stuart Goodwin, Head of Finance, Bedfordshire Police stuart.goodwin@beds.police.uk
