Fast Track Programme (Constable to Inspector)

Police Officer - Probationer
Cambridgeshire Constabulary
Forcewide

Are you a graduate, a special constable or police staff member looking for a rewarding career with progression? Do you have the ambition, determination and vision to accelerate into the senior ranks of the police service?

The Fast Track Programme (police constable to inspector) is an accelerated three-year promotion and development programme which gives talented graduates and police staff/special constables the skills, knowledge and experience to advance to the rank of inspector within three years.

Although exciting, intense and varied, being a police officer is not a 9 to 5 job. Candidates will be supported to learn what it takes to become a police officer and to quickly put that learning into practice. To help you decide whether a career in the police is for you, it is highly recommended that you complete the interactive self-selection questionnaire and the high potential development tool attached below.

As a Fast Track recruit you will receive a very competitive pay and benefits package including an excellent pension plan, paid over-time and a fair and inclusive promotion policy. You will be part of an intense and demanding 3 year development programme with excellent support including individual mentoring, personalised learning plans and on the job training. Salaries begin in the region of £22,000 per annum, rising to £47,000 after three years upon successful completion of the course and promotion to inspector.

You will be subject to the same eligibility criteria required of all other individuals who join the police service including checks around your financial position, previous criminal convictions, fitness and membership of political groups. Graduates will normally require a 2:1 degree at the point of programme entry (Sept 2015), and police staff and special constable applicants will need to prove they have the academic ability to deal with the rigorous training and development programme.

How to apply? Prospective candidates will need to complete an on-line application form giving high quality examples of how they meet the personal qualities required to be a senior police officer. These personal qualities can be found in the attached job preview.  The application window opens on 17th Nov, closing on 12th December. Applicants successful at this initial stage will be invited to attend a local interview in the New Year. For this process, Cambridgeshire Constabulary will put forward a small number of selected individuals to the College of Policing’s 2 day national Fast Track Programme assessment centre between 16th – 29th April. Those candidates securing a post will begin their training in September 2015.
