ERSOU is the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit, that oversees and delivers a regional level response to Serious and Organised Crime, and Counter Terrorism Policing for the Forces in the Eastern Region. ERSOU is made up of both Officers and Police Staff from across the entire region, and works closely with the 7 Forces and National Partners. The departments are unique, in that they are able to offer opportunities to work and develop individuals professionally in specialist areas, often delivering capabilities that are provided by local forces. 

This role is in the ROCU which provides specialist capabilities to tackle the increasingly complex threat posed by organised crime, which ranges from child sexual exploitation, modern slavery, county drugs lines, cybercrime and economic crime – and we’re currently looking for people to join us.

By joining one of the teams in our ROCU, you’ll be able to develop your skills in a niche and exciting area, while helping to identify and disrupt organised criminals operating across the eastern region. 

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our Team and work in partnership with HMP The Mount which is located just outside Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire. In addition to working at the Mount you will have the opportunity to support colleagues across the HMPPS estate including Multi Agency Response Serious and Organised Crime (MARSOC) and the Police led HMPPS Counter Corruption Team (CC).We will support detectives in maintaining their accreditation and support constables in becoming IPP accredited If you would like to broaden your horizons, develop your skills or simply need a new challenge and you would like to join us. Experience & Qualifications:

  • Individual must demonstrate competence in substantive rank
  • Authorised police driver (any level) with full UK driving licence
  • Is up to date with unarmed defence tactic training.
  • Experience of using Information Technology (IT) including Microsoft Word and Excel. 

Expectations

You will be responsible for proactive intelligence gathering from prison establishments throughout the region in line with National, Regional and Force priorities. 

Target Organised Crime Group Nominals, using covert and overt tactics to impact on the threat, risk and harm posed within the prison environment.

A buddy system is in place to support colleagues across the region, therefore on occasions you may be required to travel within your working day.

Supervisory support, direction and guidance is provided by one of the dedicated Detective Sergeants. The PIU Core Team are on hand to support with research and analytical products 

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) or Development vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security checks on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.
