Applications are invited from highly motivated PC/DC’s to join the Eastern Regional Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) for vacancies on the Eastern Region Counter Terrorism Unit based in Bedfordshire. The Counter Terrorism Team work with MI5 and other partner agencies and are tasked with proactive and reactive deployments to gather intelligence, and disrupt terrorist activities utilising the most sensitive methods and covert tactics available to Law Enforcement.

The most significant risk to National Security & the communities of the United Kingdom is the threat from International Terrorism. ERSOU Counter Terrorism Policing is an integral part of the UK’s National Counter Terrorism Network with surveillance playing one of many intrinsic and vital parts of this endeavour to bring terrorists to justice; a key process in maintaining the safety and security of our country.

Successful candidates will have an energetic and innovative approach to working within this proactive environment, with high levels of flexibility to use varying degrees of self-initiative and team work. They must have the willingness to work unsocial hours at short notice on critical live operations should it be required, but will be rewarded with the opportunity to experience a type of work unlike any other and the adventure of working in varied locations nationally.

Successful candidates must have completed their probationary period, have a full current driving licence, be a standard police driver and have the ability to pass Advanced Driving and National Surveillance Courses.

Once established in the team, further opportunities are available such as taser, photography, technical surveillance, covert rural observation post, surveillance motorcyclists and national surveillance trainers.

This advert is open to officers within the region from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) or Development Vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

As this is a PDF document this will need to be wet signed. We will accept an audit trail of emails from your line manager and Head of Department if a wet signature is not achievable.

Essex Officers must inform HR Resource Planning (hr.resource.planning@kent.essex.pnn.police.uk) at the earliest opportunity of your intention to apply for this secondment.   Every Officer application form must be signed by your Ch Supt or police staff equivalent and sent to HR Resource Planning (hr.resource.planning@kent.essex.pnn.police.uk) no later than 5 working days prior to closing date, unless exceptional circumstances.  This is required so that Chief Officer approval can be obtained for your application to progress, which will be managed by HR Resource Planning.  These steps must be completed prior to submission to the recruiting organisation.  If your application for an opportunity is not approved prior to submission to the recruiting organisation you may not be supported for release to the role, should you be successful. “Release may be subject to the forces wider commitment”
