Police Officers rely on a wide range of people to help them do their job, and you can be one of them. We are looking to recruit a pool of Police Community Support Officers to fill intakes throughout the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 financial years.

Within this role you will be giving vital support to officers of Bedfordshire Police; but more than that you will be helping to reassure the public as you will be providing a uniformed presence within the community.

You must be an effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills as well as having the ability to solve problems, whilst thinking on your feet. You must also have the desire to make a difference to people's lives. We will work with you to maximise these skills (and others) to the utmost potential so you can work to maintain the highest possible levels of public safety. You will need a current full UK manual driving licence.

Overview of the selection process:-
Complete the on-line application to apply for the role of PCSO, This is a competency based application form, so you will need to provide detailed evidence against each of the questions. Remember that the individuals reviewing your application will not know you, so this is your opportunity to impress them. Further guidance can be found in the attached document.

If you are successful following shortlisting you will then be invited to undertake the Police Initial Recruitment Test (PIRT). You will need to pass this test in order to be invited to the final stage of the selection process which is a competency-based interview.

If successful following these three stages you will have to undergo a number of pre-employment checks including vetting, health-screening medical and references. Successful candidates will also be required to pass a fitness test as they are expected to be on active patrol (on foot or bicycle) for their shift of 8 hours.

Start dates are dependent on a number of factors including all pre-employment checks being completed satisfactorily. Please note that we are looking to fill intakes over the next year, so you may not be offered a start date straight away once you have passed the recruitment process.

Due to this role involving shift work, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment by the Occupational Health and Safety Department

If you have submitted a previous application for the role of PCSO within the last 6 months, you will be ineligible to apply.
